For IMMEDIATE RELEASE: FunkShop DJs acquire Spun Academy
PORTLAND, OR, October 20th, 2012 -- FunkShop DJs have officially taken control of
Spun Academy DJ Instruction Institution, and will begin full operation in early 2013.
Spun Academy is THE leader in DJ instruction in the Pacific Northwest, and now one of
the top DJ crews has taken over the reins to make it an even bigger institution. With
FunkShop's twelve years of experience as one of the top DJ crews in the Northwest and
recognized by countless entertainment companies, recording artists and record labels
around the world, the potential of this acquisition is virtually limitless.
Paul Hammond, better known as DJ Biggz said this about the takeover - "We plan on
educating people about the difference between simply playing music and professionally
mixing. Throughout the process we hope to bring awareness to the general public on
what proper mixing really is and plan on raising the bar for DJs around the northwest
and spreading out around the country". Biggz has been a prominent DJ in the
Northwest for well over two decades, performing with the likes of Bubba Sparxxx, Mix
Master Mike, and Rahzel, along with numerous other artists. He has also worked on
tours with Interscope Records, Warner Brother Records and Capitol Records, was
involved with the And 1 Streetball tours in 2004 and 2005, and has been the NW
Representative for Interscope Records.
FunkShop DJs, a division of Three 6 Oh Entertainment LLC., plans on taking Spun
Academy to much higher levels than ever before, with immediate plans to educate
students on techniques to properly DJ in nightclubs and mobile DJ events. Long term
plans are to eventually add a music production workshop, urban and electronic music
history, live sound, nightclub and technical lighting, and promotion & marketing in the
music industry.
The Board of Directors that has teamed up to accomplish this are comprised of
members of the Three 6 Oh Entertainment team, FunkShop DJs, and Soil Bread
Entertainment, a popular urban entertainment and artist management company. The
team has been carefully assigned to maximize potential and to create an institution that
can be duplicated in other markets around the country, and eventually around the globe.
Classes for DJ mixing will begin in January of 2013. For information on DJ classes or
